The Cape crusaders of indie!
PREVIEW: THE DIRTY SKIRTS Camden Barfly
SOUTH Africa may not be known for producing good indie groups or, in fact, any indie groups.
But The Dirty Skirts are here to change that.
Recently signed to Sony BMG, this collection of colourful characters are responsible for solid, catchy tunes that need only be listened to once for you to be playing them back in your head all day long.
Hailing from Cape Town, this energetic four-piece resemble a slightly less powerful version of The Killers but with their own style shining through. They are definitely worth checking out.
According to their MySpace page, they are “an astonishing proposition on stage, a heady combination of effervescent joy, humour, passion and raw animal power”, who favour “a punchy, nosebleed set”. If that doesn’t capture the imagination, what will?
Their hotly anticipated album, Daddy Don’t Disco, is out on September 29 but, before that, you can catch the last stop on their UK tour at Camden’s Barfly tomorrow (Friday).
