THREE cheers to animator Kevin Richards. The Dartmouth Park-based artist has had his superb short film Joystick accepted by the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in October.
Kevin, a graduate from the Royal College of Art, has seen success at festivals with Pariah the Red Man, which was well received at the Annecy, Zagreb and Esphino festivals. It was also screened on Channel 4.
The animator says Joystick explores the destructive power of love, and, having seen his works, I can vouch for its beauty.
It was drawn in Biro on cartridge paper, and Kevin says he was influenced by the traditional forms of cartoon art, including the methods perfected by the Walt Disney studios.
He is currently working on an animated version of Dimitri Sidjanski’s story book, A Cherrywood Canon, illustrated by the satirical artist Ralph Steadman.
This is being produced concurrently with a forthcoming documentary about Steadman’s life and work.
Check out other work by Kevin – it doesn’t disappoint. Go to Itchfilm.com, or www.eyeforfilm.co.uk for the festivals full prgogramme.
