Audio Bullys play Astoria 2
Bullys are back in town
PREVIEW: AUDIO BULLYS
Push: Astoria 2
“HOOLIGAN House” heroes the Audio Bullys return to London – after rocking every festival tent up and down the country – to play Push, one of London’s hottest indie-electro nights.
Headlining the Astoria 2, Twickenham boys Tom Dinsdale and Simon Franks will showcase brand new material as well as a live show, fusing rock with the dance beats that made them famous.
The dance duo, who attribute their ability to pitch every song directly at the dance floor to “a misspent youth fuelled by nights partying at illegal Orbital raves,” are quickly establishing themselves as a north London live circuit favourite. And their third album, Sunday Night Fever, has been hailed by critics as a return to the form of their first, Alter Ego, which catapulted them to success.
Audio Bullys’ own style of dance music has been branded by some as Hooligan House, thanks to the loud, laddish lyrics of Simon Frank. These London-based lyrics have seen the band compared to the Streets. In reality, they are something much more interesting.
Their suburban upbringing sheltered them from the attitude of Londoners who take themselves too seriously, allowing a more fun feel to their music.
This background also left them closer to many of urban music’s trends over the past 10 years: drum and bass, dubstep and grime have all emerged from London suburbs.
They were hailed as the new “sound of the suburbs” in 2003.
Like many Push stars, Audio Bullys are set to join the “who’s who” of top live bands, such artists as Vampire Weekend, The Whip, Black Kids and Teenagers.
• Audio Bullys live at Push at Astoria 2, 165 Charing Cross Road, WC2, on August 16.
