YOU couldn’t move for mayors at Hampstead Theatre’s annual end-of-term showcase for older playwrights. The audience for the Theatre Studies for Older Learners group read like a who’s who of Camden, with current Mayor Nurul Islam, and former mayors Councillors Roger Robinson, Jill Fraser and Dawn Somper all in attendance.
The over-60s group had worked on their short plays with tutor Doris Daly from Westminster Kingsway College.
Professional actors performed the work.
SUPER! Smashing! Great! At the risk of being sued by the ebullient Jim Bowen, is there any other way to introduce the legendary compere’s Bullseye-inspired chat show? Look What You Could Have Won previews at Upstairs at the Gatehouse this weekend (July 12-13) for two nights only before it heads up to the Edinburgh Festival.
Mr Bowen will be chatting to special guests and lucky audience members will throw darts for a chance to win Bully’s secret star prize.
THE secrets of comedy writing – which have eluded In the Wings for years – will be laid bare as part of the burgeoning Kilburn Comedy Festival. Now in its sophomore year, the festival runs until July 13 at the Tricycle Theatre, The Cock Tavern and other good-humoured Kilburn boozers.
The comedy writing workshop at the Tricycle on Sunday evening – which follows a special children’s stand-up show on Saturday – has limited spaces, so hop to it.
