Grooves

DISREGARDING death, who would be in your ideal Glastonbury line-up? That was the question plaguing us all as we watched Jay-Z prove his worth on the Pyramid stage.
It was effectively an hour’s worth of Shushing to his critics – including Noel Gallagher, obviously. Jay-Z was resplendent on the night, and even got a bit mushy, telling us in his oh so American way how much he loved us.
He smacked it. And I was pleased for him – but it was a bit of a shame Beyonce, who was shimmying in the background, never came on.
But who would have been in my line-up? Notorious BIG, Elvis, The Beatles, Wham, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey and Destiny’s Child. More Smash Hits than Glasto, I know.
Other highlights at the sun-filled extravaganza were the hippy area known as Green Fields and the dance area Shangri-la.
But for anyone who’s debating whether to go next year, I have a few words of advice: You can arrive on Friday night (no later), but stay until Monday morning because in many ways Sunday has the best line-up – plus you’ll be knackered on the journey home otherwise. Bring your own beverages because, trust me, the cider is rank and the beer’s not much better.
And finally, bring tissues.
