PREVIEW: OZOMATLI Jazz Café
FOR those not in the know, the Jazz Café is host to a whole lot more than just jazz. It’s an open-minded venue, so you’re just as likely to walk through the doors and see folk, soul, ska, reggae and hip-hop, and most of these genres will be in evidence when Ozomatli play the Parkway venue from the June 24-26.
Already firm favourites with hip-hop heads across the world, if you’re a jazzer looking to have fun and branch out you could do a lot worse than start with them.
The Grammy (and Latin Grammy) Award winning band have been together since the mid-1990s, and burst onto the international scene with their self-titled debut in 1998.
Their infectious and fiery mix of hip-hop, funk and rock, tinged with an edgy touch of Latin flavour, always guarantees a lively upbeat performance.
These dates promise to be no exception, the nine-piece group bringing together live drums, bass, guitars, horns, percussion and MCs to play from their new release, Don’t Mess With The Dragon.
