PREVIEW: VIRGINIA AND VITA IN A SUMMER GARDEN Fitzroy Square
FOR those of you who like the idea of reading a little literature while listening to a little classical music but are perhaps a little too lazy to make the effort, the good folk at Orpheon Voices are providing a solution.
This Sunday in Fitzroy Square, Orpheon founder Vanessa Underwood will read from Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece To The Lighthouse and Vita Sackville-West’s The Land, in an experimental partnership with the first movement of Kenneth Leighton’s Sonata for Cello Solo.
The music, performed by Ben Hess, acts as a foil for the spoken pieces and should make for an intriguing exploration of a classic text in the very square where Woolf once lived.
And if all that easy-access culture isn’t enough to drag you away from the TV and what in all likelihood will be another 0-0 draw in the European Championships, there are refreshments in the garden before and after the show. No excuses.
• Virginia and Vita in a Summer Garden is on at 20 Fitzroy Square, W1, on Sunday, 6.30pm. Tickets are £15 (£12 unreserved). 01825 790774
