One of the highly artistic images that feature in the Advertising Art show at the Chambers Gallery
Camden Feature | Review| Advertising Art | Chambers Gallery | Silk Cut | Levi's ADVERTISING is a most pragmatic salesman.
The hard sell of today is almost unrecognisable from the bold brand placement of the 1960s, the sloganeering replaced with subtle, ingenious, and increasingly artistic messages.
The lines between the worlds of advertising and art have blurred: fine art graduates design car campaigns, McDonald’s burgers pose for art photographers.
The current exhibition at the Chambers Gallery, Advertising Art, showcases the work of many titans of the industry. Photographers Richard Avedon, John Claridge, Nadav Kander and Graham Ford all feature, as do art directors Paul Arden (of Saatchi fame), John Hegarty and Tim Delaney.
Or, if you want to look at it another way, there’s adverts by Jack Daniels, Absolut Vodka, Silk Cut and Levi’s, among others. SIMON WROE
