BETWIXT
King's Head Theatre

LOOKING for a flamboyant fairy story just for adults?

Betwixt fulfils every criteria for a perfect piece of escapist drama. Stirring together a heady mix of fairytale ingredients, Ian McFarlane’s result is a delightful romp, jam-packed with fairy nymphs, a talking head and an evil seductress to add some spice.
Bailey Howard (Stephen Fletcher) is a successful writer but suffering writer’s block.
The press are at his door and to put the nail in the coffin, his girlfriend (Abi Finley, How to Solve a Problem Like Maria) has left him in the lurch by moving out of their flat.
Enter camp, wannabe actor Cooper Fitzgerald (Ian McFarlane) as his future lodger.
But obsessing over the pressure of delivering a successful novel to rival his first, Bailey attempts to throw Cooper out.
In the most bizarre instance, Cooper discovers a key and small white locked door where both he and Bailey enter, to fall into a nonsensical world where the arrival of a hero and his queen (camp Cooper!) has been expected.
Thrown together the two characters form a bond, overcoming doubts and fears, wonderfully drawn in the poignant number Eyes of a Child.
Catchy numbers (you may leave with them resounding in you head) combined with an imaginative use of space, leave you craving more.
A strong ensemble light up the tiny King’s Head stage at every second, in particular the reprisal of The Paparazzi Rag.
Betwixt is a joy to behold, leaving all inhibitions at the door of reality, diving headfirst into a enchanting magical world where love grows, friendships flourish and good overcomes evil.
Prepare to depart from reality and lose yourself in this uplifting comedy.
