Late Christmas present for families
PREVIEW:CAVATINA FAMILY CONCERTS - THE CARDUCCI QUARTET Swiss Cottage Library
The Nintendo DS screen is cracked, awaiting repair. Igglepiggle’s head came off in a tragic and best-left-unmentioned tug-of-war with the family mutt.
That Transformer’s model you scoured Oxford Street for looks distinctly in need of a mechanic and woefully incapable of taking on the Decepticons.
In fact, as the memory of the Christmas splurge fades, all the kids’ toys are either abandoned, lost or completely destroyed.
So instead of plonking the wee ones down in front of their Shrek the Third DVD for the umpteenth time, why not treat them to a stroll across Regent’s Park and, en route home, an hour of music and fun at the latest in the Cavatina series of Family Concerts?
And as an added bonus, it’s free.
The brainchild of Hampstead-based Professor Simon Majaro and his wife, Pamela, Cavatina brings classical music to thousands of schoolchildren around Britain each year.
On Sunday, The Carducci Quartet will cast their spell, blending musical brilliance with an engaging insight into the workings of classical music that could easily set artistic sparks flying in a young mind.
Just don’t blame me if you find yourself hauling a cello up Finchley Road this time next year.
Interest in the Family Concerts series to date has been phenomenal, so booking is advised.
• The Carducci Quartet are at Swiss Cottage Library on Sunday, February 3 from 2.30-3.30pm. Entry is free for children (6-18) and accompanying adults. Details on joining the Cavatina Friends scheme are at www.cavatina.net. Concert dates are listed under ‘News’
