PREVIEW THE NEW PROFESSIONALS
University College School
SEPTEMBER saw the opening of the New Professionals 2007-08 series and, following the resounding success of their concert in Hampstead Parish Church, the orchestra is now moving up the road for the first of two recitals at University College School.
Hampstead-born violinist Thomas Gould (pictured) takes on the mantle of soloist in a programme that features the European premiere of Jalbert’s
Chamber Symphony, Barber’s Violin Concerto and Brahms’s Symphony No 2.
Thomas, who grew up in Belsize Park and has played with the New
Professionals for three years, was selected for representation by the Young Concert Artists Trust 2006, which opened the door to debut recitals at the Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall and Wigmore Hall.
A musician in high demand, he also leads the Aurora Orchestra, co-leads Britten Sinfonia and plays regularly on soundtracks for film and television. In addition Thomas has recorded works by Herbert Howells and Joseph Jongen for the Meridian and Hyperion labels.
The New Professionals Orchestra, based in Hampstead, now in its eighth year, has quickly risen to prominence and has been critically acclaimed for its innovative programming and dynamic musicianship. The orchestra has appeared frequently at the Southbank Centre, including two appearances at the prestigious FRESH series.
It is led by Californian-born Rebecca Miller, who established the orchestra with husband, Danny Driver. •The New Professionals with Thomas Gould is at University College School, Hampstead, on Thursday, November 15 at 7.30pm.
