Grooves
AS mayhem navigates its flight to Camden Town in preparation for next week’s Electric Proms, I’ve just stepped off a plane. From Nashville, Tennessee.
On a trip to the Jack Daniel’s distillery in the US, for their birthday celebrations with Patti Smith, Juliette Lewis and Shingai (who was lovely) from the NOISEttes, it was an education.
Those southern Yanks, they’re funny. Tattoos on boobs, hillbilly hats and a few non-PC comments thrown in, it’s all there for you on a plate that you’ll never be able to finish. One thing I did realise is we’re lucky to have such musical variety in London, England, (as they call it) because over there it’s all country – which is nice at first but starts to grate after a while, like looking after someone else’s kid. But more of that next week.
Back to the Proms. I know I’ve been banging on about this for weeks now, but I’m excited, alright. Mark Ronson, who’s probably best known as Amy Winehouse’s partner in crime and seems a bit overrated to me, is still one of the gigs of the week, mostly because of the range of artists he’s bringing onstage to perform with him. Apart from the obvious collaborations such as Lily Allen, who he worked with on her debut album, I’m more keen on seeing ex-Special’s frontman Terry Hall.
There are also some amazing films on show, including Otis Redding and Bob Dylan in concert, and an overview of Manchester during the Hacienda days.
