Jazz night set to swing
PREVIEW - ZENA JAMES / GEORGIA MANCIO
Lauderdale House
THE popular Jazz in the House season continues at Lauderdale House with an unusual twist next Thursday as acclaimed young London vocalists Zena James (pictured) and Georgia Mancio join top British jazz musicians to deliver a double-header in two very different styles.
Zena and Georgia come showered with accolades: Zena for her original twists on Billie Holiday material and newer pop standards; Georgia for an intriguing blend of jazz, Brazilian, Cuban and Italian songs.
Since the sell-out launch by Jazzizit Records in March, Zena's debut CD, Tell Me More, has received rave press reviews.
The album blends cool bass and voice intros to elegant swing and strong blues-based tunes, sultry latin rhythms and modern pop grooves.
Award-winning Anglo-Italian vocalist Georgia has sung with jazz legends Bobby McFerrin and Sheila Jordan and performed at leading venues and festivals in the UK, Italy, Portugal and Belgium.
She will be previewing material from her forthcoming album, a follow up to her internationally acclaimed 2003 debut, Peaceful Place.
With a fantastic rhythm section – Mike Bradley, Dave Ohm (drums), Mark Hodgson (double bass) and Rob Taggart (piano) – this will be a great night for all lovers of the art of jazz singing.
