The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS

Grooves

THE Electric Proms are rushing towards us at an astonishing rate, running as they do from October 24-28.
Recent reviews in Grooves of established and new name acts appearing at the Proms – Paul McCartney and Justice to name but two – prove this paper’s ahead of the times and tells you about all the best acts around.
Funnily enough, it looks like there was a bit of a problem with booking tickets for the gigs after nearly 80,000 people tried to buy, buy, buy at the same time. The BBC posted a note on their website apologising for the booking jam and pointed out it was the Roundhouse’s fault. Spatarama. But it should be an amazing festival – look out for a full preview next week – and although many of the gigs are sold out, there are still some on offer. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/electricproms for more information.
The Jazz Café is also playing a blinder this month with Angie Stone and Finley Quaye up on stage – worth booking your place among the swaying masses.
And other exciting news: well done to Camden band the Bad Robots, who have got through to the second round of Alex Zane-fronted music reality show, mobileAct unsigned. They were picked from just under 2,000 bands that have been whittled down to under the final 50. See their brand of Clash meets Beach Boys on a Channel 4 slot T4 on November 4.
