CRAIG BRAUNS
YUK: it is Tuesday night and you’ve frankly got no reason to be hanging out in the late, late hours in a smoky pub when there is work to do in the morning.
So why are you there? Because there’s a friendly looking fella on stage with a curly mop of hair a cheeky look across his chops and a big and beautiful voice.
Craig Brauns is a new addition to Kentish Town’s acoustic scene: he was playing on Tuesday night at the Abbey Tavern in Kentish Town Road and basically he rocks.
The Abbey showcases new talent each week with five or six songsmiths doing a turn.
It’s crowded and leary – an uncompromising crowd who want to be entertained.
Which is lucky, because Craig is very entertaining.
He has a deep vocal range and sounds retro – there’s a bit of Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart in there, while the ballads he produces sound like Janis Joplin.
