Great gigs, and for a good cause
PREVIEW: The Little Noise Sessions
Union Chapel
A WEEK of gigs in aid of Mencap, the charity for people with learning disabilities, which runs from November 20-27, features a starry line-up, including Oasis grouch Noel Gallagher, pop-starlet Lily Allen, indie sell-outs the Kooks, ‘Stella’ rapping Jamie-T, Scot rockers the Fratellis, and beautiful-voiced James Morrison.
It may not change playground jibes, but it could make the rest of us at least think about things. Even if just for a night.
Although spending your cash to watch a load of big names sing probably won’t change the world – did Live8 make any difference in the end – but the bottom line is it will raise a bit of money.
Jo Whiley, patron of the charity (who has a sister with a learning disability) and gig compere, explains the reasons why you should part with your pennies thus: “The Mencap Arts Awards scheme – which these gigs are supporting – gives children and young adults with a learning disability the opportunity to take part in local arts projects, helping them grow in confidence and ability.”
Hosted at the Union Chapel in Compton Terrace, Islington, get your tickets before they sell out. Visit www.seetick
