I DONT know if Thursday October 5 is a full moon, but if it is you best watch out.
Because Lithuanian singing sensation Joana, of Joana and the Wolf, is coming to Kilburn and is a whole different woman when the moon is full.
According to legend, impressed by the howl of a wolf she went and made friends with him, and he jumped in her mouth. “Since then, the girl wanders around with the wolf inside her and each time the moon is full she lets out a wild hoooowl.” According to legend, that is.
Joana’s star is firmly in the ascendant. Along with the wolf, she has supported James Dean Bradfield of the Manics, recorded their debut single with the Arctic Monkeys and Editors producer, sung with Kasabian, and won an Indy award for Best New Wave Act, as well as topping audience polls on XFM and BB6 Radio 6.
A cross between Kate Bush and the Scissor Sisters with some Eastern European exoticism thrown in, Joana and the Wolf are howlingly good.
Get down to the Good Ship at a reasonable hour for the event, which doubles up as a showbiz fundraiser for the theatre company Charm Offensive, including burlesque, comedy and
rock’n’roll.
