Faithful to early music
PREVIEW - A LITTLE TASTE OF ITALY
Handel House
ABOUT 20 years ago a movement sprung up trying to faithfully reconstruct early music.
Musicians wanted to use the original instruments and strip away excessive musical directions and recreate the sound that would have been heard when a piece was composed.
These days the early music revolutionaries have become mainstream, their interpretations of music has become widespread.
A concert typical of the early music school occurs at the Handel House Museum on Thursday when harpsichordist Ibi Aziz, recorder player Rachael Hatton and cellist Iason Ioannou perform a variety of works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Works by composers such as Bassano, Frescobaldi and Mancini will be performed in the setting of Handel’s Mayfair house.
