Basquiat to play free gig
FRESH from their Mercury Prize nomination, Ben Davis’s Basquiat Strings will be performing at the National Portrait Gallery for free at 6.30pm on Friday. Their European folk, bossa-nova, gypsy-jazz sound is delivered by a virtuoso group of accomplished classical and jazz musicians.
Leader Ben Davis, on cello, is a long-standing member of the free-improv scene.
The lush chord voicings, speedy strings and tight rhythms make this a musical experience not to be missed.
