‘Voice of Cuba’ at the Club
PREVIEW: HANNY @ CLUB
Leosbel Jiminez Licea – better known as Hanny, the ‘voice of Cuba’ – will take the stage at the @ Club in Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park, on Friday. Havana-born Hanny started writing and performing music – specifically love songs – at the age of 12, often entertaining tourists on the Malecon in Havana with his compositions.
Since he came to the UK in the late 1990s, he has enjoyed considerable success, with rave reviews greeting his 1997 recording debut. In July, he took part in the anti-racism Rise Festival, in Finsbury Park. He subsequently returned to Cuba to record his third CD, Shock Trance, and toured the island with his band.
Hanny is one of a number of acts taking part in an Art Hut Revue show, which also features the Panjam Drummers – with guest appearance from Djembe Grand Master, Joe Legabwe – the AHC Band with Donna B, and Zola’s Dance Troop.
The evening will be hosted by lyrical poet and artist, Tina Snowdon, who has previously worked as a studio artist for the BBC and plans further collaboration with Hanny in the future.
@ Club, 175 Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park. Doors open 8pm. Show starts 9pm (till 2am). £4.
