CIRCUITS

IF you’ve ever wondered what the A&R men thought the first time they heard Razorlight, here’s your chance.
Listening to the east London four-piece Circuits’ second single, Say No Say Yeah/Question Marked Shaped Heart, lead singer Benny Smith sounds uncannily similar to frontman Jonny Borrell.
But although that should mean a black mark, it doesn’t – he has has a great voice so why change it?
Named One’s To Watch of 2006 by Nokia, their new single, out in October, is a vibrant snapping four-four punky track of drums shouted down at the end with soulful brass.
While the beat is a tad overcomplicated on Say No Say Yeah, I can’t help but agree with the line: “It’s hard to say no when you really should be saying yeah!”
They might sound a bit unoriginal, but I can’t help but say Yeah!
And their record-it-in-one-go-ish ethos adds to the exciting sound – I’d bank on them sounding the same live as they do on their records.
Having performed with hotly-tipped Rumble Strips and the Holloways, they are currently working on their debut album.
But make up your own mind when they play the Nambucca in Holloway Road this Saturday.
To check if it’s worth going, listen to them at www.myspace.com/circuitsband.com.
