PREVIEW - ON SONG FESTIVAL
Carling Academy
YOU’RE sitting in your living room in a dressing gown and socks, trying to rhyme something with orange.
Not getting anywhere? okay, try silver. Just kidding – they’re both famously impossible to match with anything.
The On Song Academy wouldn’t be able to help with that – but offering a week of FREE songwriting workshops, it’s definitely a better way to spend your time if you’re a budding and talented songsmith.
The festival, which tours the country over the next two years, and “celebrates the art of songwriting” (according to the press babble), was organised by the prestigious Academy Music Group, Arts Council, and BBC Radio 2.
And it’s all about you: It features showcases of unsigned bands and Key Industry Figures who’ll give you any and all tips they’ve picked up along the way.
If you want to sign up to the seminars, which run from 11am-5pm at Carling Academy Islington, email fergal@british
academy.com. The showcase will start at 7.30pm. For more info go to www.britishacademy.com
From Monday September 25 to Wednesday October 11, a series of recognised songwriters will be performing, including Babybird (!), Dead Men Walking and Keisha White at Carling Academy Islington. Go to www.islington-academy.co.uk for tickets.
