Playwrights’ script tips at writing festival
PLAYWRIGHTS Mark Ravenhill, Dennis Kelly and Tanika Gupta will take part in this year’s Hampstead Theatre New Writing Festival.
The event, now in its second year, will run at the venue from September 10-15 and will also involve work from both Paines Plough and Talawa.
As part of the festival, a new ‘epic’ work-in-progress by Ravenhill will receive its first reading, while leading writers including Gupta – who wrote the brilliant White Boy staged at the Soho Theatre last month – Amy Rosenthal and Gary Owen will team up with emerging talent to create a series of works billed as “daring pairings”.
The duos have been given two weeks to write and four weeks to develop 50-minute scripts from scratch, which will then be performed as rehearsed readings.
The festival concludes with Kelly working with four young writers to create four new plays which will be performed by the Heat and Light youth company. www.hampstead theatre.com
