Demo of the Week
LUXEMBOURG
WHAT'S with naming your band after a place? Having recently demo-of-the-week’d Mexico, now it is the turn of Luxembourg to step up.
Likened to seminal ’90s cult indie group Pulp – who are clearly an influence – it’s some achievement that they’ve managed to snare Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker as a fan. And being “hailed as victors and kings” by music website Drowned In Sound ain’t too bad either.
Having set up their own label, Dogbox Records, which they’ve been releasing singles through since 2004, I thought it was more than their moment to shine.
Having released We Only Stayed Together For The Kids, in May – which was pretty damn cool – the London four-piece are readying the cannons to shoot out their debut album Front in October.
But before you have to wait for what is essentially a darkly poppy lyric-led record, which they’ve helpfully labelled Pop Noir, they are treating us to a second taster single, out at the start of October, called Sick Of DIY.
Their album launch party will be at Metro in Oxford Street on Saturday October 14. Check them out at www.luxembourgband.com
