TWO DAYS IN PARIS
Directed by Julie Delphy
Certificate 12
ALL hail a one-woman tour de force, the one woman being its star Julie Delphy. She’s blonde, sassy, mid-30s, bright as a button – and she also wrote, directed, co-
produced and edited this lively trip through the boulevards of Paris. She even wrote the music, which means the buck stops right there.
This is more than somewhat impressive, especially as the film is a sheer delight when French photographer Marion (Julie herself) and American designer Jack (Adam Goldberg) try to rekindle their relationship by taking two romantic days off in Paris before flying home to New York.
The dialogue sizzles like a summer barbecue, with enough tasty morsels on hand to satisfy the most demanding appetite and lift your spirits sky-high.
The pair strike sparks off one another in a battle of the sexes reminiscent of the Hollywood golden years. The character Julie wrote for herself is deliciously sexy, while her partner is a bewildered neurotic, out of his depth in a foreign land where he doesn’t speak the language or understand the insults heaped on him by surly cab drivers.
Enjoy a wonderful two days in Paris with these two. I only wish they – and we – could have stayed longer.
