INTERVIEW
SESSION
DJ and producer Session – his real name is top secret – lives in Bayham Street in Camden Town.
A man with more pies than fingers, he does alternative beats and rhythms with Polar Bear, breakbeat as part of the duo The Equalizers, hip hop with G-range, and drum and bass with Superking and Danny Wheeler.
He’s also won Cannes Gold and Silver awards for his producing work on adverts.

CC: Why did you move back to Camden?
S: A friend of mine owns a place here and, with it’s music and venues, it seemed like the right move.
CC: What do you think of the Camden music scene?
S: It’s as good as it’s ever been. People realise Camden’s musical roots and it just keeps bringing them back.
CC: Tell me about your collaboration with Polar Bear.
S: Personally I think he’s one of the most talented story- tellers out there, and with a sick flow too! After the first tune Seven Thirty, we just kept making them. The Keep It Simple EP sums up what we were doing at the time.
CC: Do you have any famous fans?
S: Maxi Jazz from Faithless is feeling it, and LSK. More to come...
CC: When’s your next album out?
S: It’s not an album as such, but releases under every guise are on their way.
CC: Fade To Black (at www.myspace.com/sessionandthebear) is like an ode to youth and childhood. Do you think things have changed much since you were a kid?
S: I think we all perceive things as changing, when really it’s us changing. Kids are still kids and that won’t ever change.
CC: If you could give kids one piece of advice, what would it be?
S: To learn: knowledge is power, but it’s also important how you use it.
CC: If you could change one thing about Camden, what would it be?
S: Stop the Stables from being knocked down!
CC: Why are you so prolific?
S: I love music – any kind as long as it’s good. And that’s what I’ll make – any music!
CC:Your Dad (Steve Lodder) is one of the UK’s best jazz pianists. Has he been an influence?
S: I grew up listening to different types of music because of him. He’s where it starts and stops for me in terms of inspiration.
