DVD of the Week
Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
TOMMY Lee Jones’s directorial debut is a grim tale well told.
Jones is Perkins, the owner of a wind beaten Texas ranch. When one of his Mexican workers is found dead in a shallow grave, he asks the authorities what they are going to do about it. But because of the corpse’s ethnicity, the sheriff is uninterested.
Perkins decides he must see justice done – and his detective work leads him to one of the nastiest pieces of white trash, border cop characters you can imagine.
With breathtaking vistas, a believable story based on true events, great performances and a moody Western soundtrack, if you missed this film in the cinema, grab it on DVD.
