The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS Published: 9 August 2007
IT’S the time of year when people are afraid to leave their homes. Grannies refuse to even pop to the shop for a pint of milk.
Why? Because it’s the summer holidays – which means schoolkids, everywhere.
OK, although I’m being flippant. It is true that everyone wants to see the kids off the streets and doing something productive – and that goes for the kids themselves.
Well nobody does that better than the Roundhouse.
In this day and age, youngsters from deprived areas – and there is no shortage of those in Camden – don’t often get a
crack at the more creative jobs.
The Roundhouse doesn’t patronise teenagers by offering them lame courses that will never get them anywhere.
Instead, as part of their Summer Holiday Season (and all year round) they offer informative sessions on jobs that hold a hint of glamour.
So it should be no surprise that their classes have been known to attract the big names in showbusiness, according to Elizabeth Lynch, director of the Roundhouse Studios. But she’s not about to give away any prize secrets. “They are all really sincere about it,” she said of the famous faces to have grappled the chalk there. “They are not doing it as a publicity stunt. Sometimes it is a one-off but sometimes they live locally and they just want to drop in.”
Hmmm, who can that be...?
