Pick of the Indies
PARTITION is director Ken McMullen’s complex, visually striking portrait of the effects of the Indian sub-continent’s division 60 years ago. Set within the confines of a mental hospital and loosely based on an Urdu story, the film, from a screenplay adapted by Tariq Ali, aims to speak for the
millions whose stories have never been
told.
It’s showing as part of Curzon Cinema’s Indian season at the Renoir on Sunday at noon and will be followed by a Q&A with McMullen.
THE Summer Season of Jewish Film continues at the Odeon Swiss Cottage this week with a screening of Only Human on Sunday. The Spanish farce looks at what happens when a Jewish woman from Madrid introduces her Palestinian boyfriend to her
parents.
On Tuesday, there’s a screening of The Soulkeeper: The True Story of Sabina Spielrein.

LOVE him or loathe him, Ingmar Bergman, who died last week, was unquestionably one of the giants of 20th-century cinema. The much-parodied Swedish auteur’s late masterpiece, Fanny And Alexander – perhaps his most autobiographical film – will be screening at the Renoir every day from Friday to Tuesday in tribute.
