ST-Martin-in-the-Fields is one of London’s most reliable music venues these days, with a terrific programme featuring the country’s best orchestras and soloists.
So in these hot summer days, as major chamber venues close their doors for the season, there is no better place to go to catch classical music.
This week is a good example. On Friday the Trafalgar Square church is hosting a performance of Vivaldi concerti by the Festive Orchestra of Britain.
Next Thursday the Kantrovitch Ensemble of London will treat an audience to Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, as well as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
And then on Saturday is Mozart’s Requiem, as satisfying to sing as it is to hear, by the Belmont Ensemble of London.
There is even an evening of jazz on Thursday with the Jonny Boston Quarter.
There is also a healthy programme of free lunch time concerts – the perfect place to rest in the shadows and enjoy the finest soloists.
