Sharps Folk Festival - Cecil Sharp House
Mairi Macdonald
RIDING high on a folk revival wave, Cecil Sharp House, Camden’s traditional music mecca is hosting a folk festival this weekend.
While the line-up may mean little outside folk circles, for those in the know, the Sharps Folk Festival has attracted some of the tradition’s finest performers to the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
Fresh from winning best duo in this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, melodeon player Jon Spiers and fiddler Jon Boden will perform on Saturday.
They will be joined onstage by Peta Webb and Ken Hall, and Morgan, Robson and Craig.
Much-loved Sussex singers, The Copper Family, who have kept alive traditional songs by passing them down through several generations, will close Sunday’s musical offerings.
New kids on the block Devil’s Interval and Pete Cooper will also be playing at Sunday’s event.
The evening concerts follow a busy programme of workshops and sing-arounds each day.
Sharps London Folk Festival is at Cecil Sharp House in Regent’s Park Road, Camden Town from 11am until 11pm this Saturday and Sunday.
Day tickets cost £12 and weekend tickets cost £20. Tickets for individual events are available.
