Pick of the Indies
Angel A
Luc Beeson’s first directed feature since 1999 is running at the Curzon Soho.
Andre (Jamel Debbouze) is a con artist who works the streets and bars of Paris. He is not popular with the French underworld, and after being given a going over by some nasty characters, he decides to end it all by jumping from a bridge.
But as he gets ready to leap, he notices a girl doing the same thing. The pair hit the water and Andre saves her from drowning. Rie Rasmussen is fun as Angela and the pair are given a fighting chance of making this film work because of some blustery repartee.
