Capote
TRUMAN Capote revolutionised American literature – he, along with Tom Wolfe, helped create a movement in the early 60s that merged the novel with the documentary.
When the killing of the Cutter family rocked America, Capote, intrigued by the story, began to investigate.
The result was a docu-novel called In Cold Blood, and was one of the most powerful arguments against the death penalty.
His relationship with Dick and Perry – the two men found guilty of the slaying – is brilliant.
With Philip Seymour Hoffman in the title role, this measured portrayal of a man who crafted a modern classic manages to avoid sentimentality. |
