RAW, edgy and reggae-fuelled, The Harder They Come makes its way to the Curzon Soho on Sunday in a rare double-bill showcasing Caribe cinema. Perry Henzell’s 1972 Jamaican cult classic stars Jimmy Cliff as a country boy drawn by the bright lights of Kingston as he trys to break into the music biz.
Henzell’s final film, No Place Like Home, follows and then a Q&A with Jimmy Cliff and Henzell’s daughter Justine. There’s free Red Stripe for ticket holders.
OVER at the Curzon Mayfair, there’s a preview of Alain ‘Last year at Marienbad’ Resnais’ latest film – an adaptation of Alan Ayckbourn’s play Private Fears in Public Places, followed by an in-depth discussion on the film with theatre critic Michael
Billington.

TWO cracking double-bills to look out for on Sunday – at the Barbican, noir classic, The Big Sleep, where the chemistry between Bogey and Bacall fairly sizzles, is paired with the Coen brothers’ The Big Lebowski, with another under-rated turn from Jeff ‘the Dude’ Bridges. Meanwhile at the Phoenix, it’s a Tony Curtis double – the sublime Some Like It Hot with the deliciously dark The Sweet Smell of Success.
