THERE are a couple of excellent choral concerts being performed on Saturday that are worth catching.
The Hampstead Choir sets a very high standard and will be performing a romantic concert on Sunday evening in the confines of the beautiful Hampstead Parish Church.
Entitled A Romantic Journey from Danube to Avon, the performance features works by Haydn, Schubert lieder, Poulenc and Shearing’s Congs and Sonnets from Shakespeare.
The choir, which was founded in 1973 by George Woodcock, is conducted by Eamonn Dougan and will be joined by Lydia Melleck on piano.

Meanwhile, on Saturday night the Islington Choral Society will be gathering at St Augustine’s Church in Highbury New Park, to perform Kodaly’s wonderful Missa Brevis and Dvorak’s Mass in D Major.
The Missa Brevis, a very satisfying song to sing, was originally written as an organ mass and later rearranged for organ and choir.
The first dramatic performance was in the cloakrooms of Budapest Opera House during the siege of the city in 1944/45.
