Pick of the Indies
THE Israeli film industry is a success story. Independent filmmakers have created a number of internationally renowned hits on tiny budgets in recent years.
Now the best of Israeli film is being brought to London by the Jewish Community Centre, who organise events across North London.
On Monday, at the screening rooms in the basement of Charlotte Street Hotel, Eytan Fox’s tragic love story Yossi and Jagger is being screened.
Two soldiers fall in love and face the ordeal of coming to terms with their sexuality.
Yossi and Jagger was originally made for TV, but its simplicity struck a chord and it was transferred to the big screen.
This is a doomed love affair which it avoids all references to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
It is an immense subject to broach, and this touching movie brings it to life.
* Yossi and Jagger is being shown on Monday at 7pm. For tickets call 020 7722 5080. |
