INDIAN artist Rabindranath Tagore is one of the few international figures to enter this nation’s artistic consciousness.
And next week a theatrical dance adaptation of his songs are being performed at the Bloomsbury Theatre.
Tagore towers over the art scene of West Bengal, a writer, poet, avant-garde painter and musician, he came to Britain in 1912 feted by the likes of W B Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and H G Wells.
And he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for his Gitanjali: Song Offerings collection.
Now his songs have been adapted into an Indian dance stage show, written by Dr Amit Biswas and with music by Chiranjib Chakraborty, concentrating on a love story between a girl and psychologically damaged young man.
A one-off performance on July 1 and raising money for the Child In Need Institute UK charity, it promises to be a startling evening. Ring 020 7388 8822.
