PREVIEW: WORKS OF STRAUSS
Wigmore Hall
HERE is the perfect concert for Strauss and Star Trek fans. Patrick Stewart was for years the face of Star Trek: The Next Generation as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and he is a hugely acclaimed Shakespearean actor, but on Thursday he will be doing something a little different.
As part of a celebration of the work and songs of Richard Strauss, he will be appearing at Wigmore Hall in Marylebone as speaker in a concert.
He will be joined by soprano Emma Bell and pianist Emanuel Ax who will be performing an all-Strauss programme. It includes performances of Das Rosenband, Nachtgang and Freundliche Vision.
There will also be a rare performance of his melodrama Enoch Arden, Strauss’s setting of the Alfred Lord Tennyson poem.
Stewart will be narrating the work and in the setting of the Wigmore it should be a very special occasion.Hurry to get tickets.
