The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS Published: 14 June 2007
SO I know I’ve already gushed about Sir Paul in the review, but being so shocked at how good his gig was, and how much I enjoyed it, set me thinking about the arrogance of youth and the cool-denting effects of ageing. Case in point: I’m young (ish), and always thought Paul was a has-been: only older people will buy his record. But even if his music’s not hip, he still commands a reverence because of his past. It’s the the snot-nosed kid saying ‘move over grandad’, like when Noel Gallagher said more or less exactly that about Paul a few years ago. While Paul may not be cool anymore, you’ve got to give him his dues for staying-power. It should be remembered he played the Electric Ballroom before he was famous – to go back and do it again more than 40 years later is impressive. Take it from a snotty-nosed kid, I was impressed.
