Big guns to perform Soldier
PREVIEW: THE SOLDIER’S TALE LSO LUKE’S
ON Sunday, the London Symphony Orchestra is performing Stravinsky’s The Soldiers Tale, with narration by Samuel West. As an accompanying event, St Luke’s is holding a discovery event on the work on June 11 at 5pm. Ten young musicians with visual impairments have created a new work called The Princess’s Tale.
A further exploration of Stravinsky’s work takes place on Monday when LSO musicians, children and older people perform different aspects of The Soldier’s Tale and there will be a performance of Stravinsky’s own version for clarinet, violin and piano.
Both events, at LSO Luke’s in Old Street, are free and for more information ring 020 7382 2526.
n JUST a quick word of congratulations to Gareth Malone, who runs two choirs for the LSO – the LSO St Luke’s Community Choir and the LSO Youth Choir.
He recently appeared as the choirmaster on the BBC2 programme The Choir and the programme has just won a Bafta Award for Best Feature.
Gareth began working with children at the Northolt High School in Middlesex at Christmas 2005 and managed to create a choir of 30 schoolchildren.
