Demo of the Week: Cartwheel Club
IT’S a pacey ride through the brighter side of ’90s student indie with the Cartwheel Club, writes Mark Blunden.
The brother and sister-fronted four-piece remind us why, back in the day, we shoe-gazed to the likes of Jesus Jones and Supergrass.
Their B-side, Song About You, tramples over the A-side, Best Behaviour.
This first track is doubly let down by a flaccid bridge and by singer Thea Hatfield, whose Dido-like voice is too thin, but buoyed by a fuzzy, jangly guitar riff.
The reins are handed over to sibling Luke for Song About You, a killer track with a chorus of near-anthemic proportions of which Jesus Jones would be proud.
