Be on guard for Gilbert and Sullivan performance
PREVIEW - YEOMAN OF THE GUARD
St Andrew's Church
ONE of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operettas is to be staged by the excellent Brent Opera group, beginning on Tuesday.
The Yeoman of the Guard opened to packed houses at the Savoy Theatre in 1888, running for 423 performances.
But, its subject matter being somewhat darker than most of the duo’s work, it sometimes lacks the profile of their other celebrated works.
So now Brent Opera will present four performances of the work at St Andrew’s Church, conducted by Stefan Hofkes, who has just made his debut at Wigmore Hall.
Performances continue until Saturday, except for Thursday.
