Rage guitarist is still after the machine
PREVIEW: TOM MORELLO
The scala
by Adam Polonsky
TOM Morello, the iconic guitarist from no-limits rock band Rage Against the Machine, comes to The Scala next week for a benefit gig. The event in King’s Cross, to raise money and awareness for The Stop The War Coalition, will be Morello’s first in the UK in two years.
The coalition campaigns to end US and UK military participation in Iraq.
Morello will perform as The Nightwatchman – his political folk alter ego – debuting his first solo album ‘One Man Revolution’, released in April.
Ranked 26th in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 greatest guitarists of all time, grammy-winning Morello is not averse to political action through music. He describes The Nightwatchman as “the black Robin Hood of 21st century music, a reaction against illicit wars, a reaction against first strikes, torture, secret prisons, spying illegally on American citizens. The world needs songs of rebellion and revolution right now.”
The event, on Monday June 4, is supported by Ed Harcourt and Frank Turner.
Tickets (at £15) are available from the Scala box-office on 020 7833 2022.
