Rare talent set to play Sarangi
PREVIEW: ARUNA NARAYAN LSO ST LUKE’S
THE Sarangi is possibly the most important bowed string instrument in traditional Hindustani classical music, with a hauntingly beautiful tone which echoes the human voice. And the world’s only female performer, Aruna Narayan, is appearing at LSO St Luke’s on Saturday in an interesting concert which blends the music of the East and West.
Joined by Hanif Khan on tabla and the world-renowned Endymion Ensemble, they will be performing new works for the Indian instruments and western instruments by up-and-coming British composers Stephen Mark Barchan, Amber Priestly, Evis Sammoutis, Jeremy Thurlow and Nathan Williamson.
As with all concerts at the Jerwood Hall in LSO St Luke’s, expect the acoustics to be excellent and get tickets early as it may prove popular.
