Bowers gets set to break on through
THIS is Robert Bowers, a 28-year-old painter and decorator from Yardley Street in Islington who could be in the running to win a major competition this weekend. Having beaten off challenges from 15,000 others in South Coast Idol, he does battle with the last 17 on Saturday in Portsmouth. Should he win this he’ll get 20,000.
The father-of-two only took up singing last year, and has regular slots at the Hope & Anchor in Highbury and the Wilmington Arms in Angel.
He said: “It’s ridiculously hard (to become successful) – it just seems like in London if you’re unheard of no one wants to know. It takes things like this (competition) to get some background to make people want to know.”
