Going, going, gone to a great comedy
BOEING BOEING
Comedy Theatre
THE old saying – as one door closes, another one opens – is particularly true in Rob Howell’s seven door set where an all-star cast play out the late Marc Camoletti’s hilarious 1960’s French sex farce.
Beautifully translated by the late Beverley Cross, the entertaining show sees Parisian architect Bernard (Roger Allam) doing his utmost to prevent his three airhostess fiancées from meeting
He has even devised a complicated timetable to ensure that their paths never collide. His naïve and slow bachelor friend Robert (Mark Rylance) arrives on the very day when Bernard’s precise timetable goes very, very wrong.
Matthew Warchus’ brilliant production will make you roar with laughter – even if chuckling is not in your genes. The cast are top-notch and full marks for ensuring that laughter is high on the agenda go to Michelle Gomez as the clench-teethed, no-nonsense German hostess. Frances de la Tour is superb as Bernard’s maid Bertha, who is totally unimpressed with the shenanigans.
Of the current crop of West End shows, this one is rare in being excellent. It is definitely worth buying a ticket for this funny and very silly show. Until April 28
