PREVIEW: TRANS ISLANDS LINKS Lauderdale House
THERE is an interesting concert at Lauderdale House in Highgate on Monday evening exploring the relationship between Japanese and European music.
Baritone Andrew D Mayor will be joined by oboist Isamu Iwasaki and pianist Miho Sanou in a programme that includes recitatives and arias from J S Bach’s Cantatas 56 and 82, J P Kirnberger’s Sonata for Oboe d’amore and piano in G major, Chanson Triste by Henri Duparc, and Anakreon’s Grab by Hugo Wolf, alongside songs by Nobuya Monta.
It is worth noting that not enough classical music from Japan is heard in this country, despite there being a burgeoning music scene.
Monta is a prolific composer and, exploring interesting musical avenues, and Miho Sanou is an excellent pianist, after studying at the Kobe College in Japan and the Royal Academy of Music.
