Patti’s back
PATTI SMITH
Roundhouse
PERHAPS more famous for being a cool 70s chick, starring in some cool black and white Robert Mapplethorpe photos and for her seminal album Horses (’75), Patti Smith has always been a peripheral figure.
But she’s never really gone away, and is performing a rare gig at the Roundhouse on Tuesday to promote her new album, Twelve, which is released the day before.
Unusually, she was voted in the top 50 greatest artists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, even though she has only ever had one top 20 hit in her 30 year career.
A poet and feminist who has played with American greats Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, she is also politically very active – notably singing at the hustings for an independent candidate in the last Stateside elections. Expect a thought-provoking evening.
