The Review - AT THE MOVIES

Prime
Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman and Bryan Greenberg get together in this low-key and likeable romantic comedy.
Thurman is the divorced, lost-at-sea girl who visits Streep’s therapist character for a bit of spirit lifting.
It so transpires that she is dating Streep’s little boy – and Streep’s Jewish mother act, coupled with Greenberg’s mollycoddled little boy provide the laughs as the therapist tries to work out whether Thurman is the sort of person she really wants to be spending time with her little angel.
It could have been a clichéd load of old tosh, but the actors are far too well-versed in understatement for this to fail.

When A Stranger Calls
Dial M for Murder is the original nasty phone call thriller. When A Stranger Calls attempts to scare the audience with the same type of you-can’t-see-the baddie, but he is on the end of the phone premise, but in all other ways it is a world apart, borrowing more from the banging doors horror films beloved of directors like Wes Craven.
A remake of the 1979 film of the same name.
