Sneak piano preview for Uys
IN May the celebrated South African pianist Tessa Uys (pictured)
is coming to Highgate School to perform as part of the Hampstead
and Highgate Festival.
As a sneak preview, she is arriving in Camden at Lauderdale
House this week to give a talk about the history of the Bluthner
piano.
Bluthners are among the best-known pianos in use. They
were first made in Leipzig by Julius Bluthner in 1853, with
three friends.
Such was their success that soon Bluthner became the suppliers
to royal courts across Europe, including the German Kaiser,
Queen Victoria and the Russian Tsar.
Uys, who began her career with a performance with the Cape Town
Orchestra aged just 13, will talk about the history of the instrument
and perform some pieces.
